Subjects
We are very busy in second grade. Below is a brief description of our school day.
Language Arts
We use the reading series Benchmark. This series focuses on all aspects of literacy including guided reading at individual students' levels, writing, phonics word work, read alouds, fluency, accuracy, comprehension and core reading strategies including story elements, making inferences, comparing/contrasting, making predictions, fixing up monitoring strategies and summarizing.
Math
Our math series is EnVision. This series teaches our students how to be math problem solvers. Students are taught place value to 1,000, introductions to multiplication, money, time, addition and subtraction strategies and measurement.
Writing
In writing, our students will be learning how to write different writing pieces in Personal Narrative, Informational, Opinion and Research with Text Based Evidence.
Cursive writing is also introduced.
Science/Social Studies
During Science, our students will focus on exploring topics including, but not limited to the scientific method, matter, landforms, weather and Habitats. During Social Studies, students will learn about a variety of topics including holidays/traditions, map skills, Pa and Us history and economics.
